2019 Jaguar XJ: Features, Ratings, and Everything You Need to Know
The 2019 Jaguar XJ is a standard luxury sedan with more old Jag appeal than the design-oriented newer models. It is big, luxurious, and rather showy with a supercharged engine as well as a thick British accent. It is a perfect blend of elegance, power, and beauty. The XJ is one of the best Jaguar vehicles ever made. If the eye test alone doesn’t have you convinced, keep reading to learn why it’s one of the best luxury cars on the market.
The 2019 Jaguar XJ: The Technical Details
The XJ model is available in short or long wheelbase alignments with a supercharged V8 or V6 engine. The supercharged V6 is a 3-liter engine with 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. V8 supercharged engine, on the other hand, is a 5 liter with 470 horsepower and 424 lb.-feet of torque. Both combine to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This controller originates from the center console after the illuminated start/stop button has been pushed, making the vehicle come to life.
The 8-speed automatic shifts easily and quickly. And when turned into dynamic mode, it holds gears much longer while also changing the throttle response and suspension tuning. Winter and Normal modes are also available. Fully self-reliant suspension with adaptive dampers and flexible air springs in the rear come standard.
The long-wheel based version has restyled exterior with rear bumpers, special badges, a gloss black grille, diamond-stitched leather upholstery, special 20-inch aluminum wheels, and special interior emblems. It also comes with an extra 4.8 inches of legroom, offering more comfort to the rear-seat passengers. Having an aluminum body and dampers that adjust, the XJ is lighter than its measurements suggest.
V8 models contain an electronically operated rear differential. In most cases, the XJ’s all-wheel-drive system sends about 90% of the engine’s power to the rear wheels, shuffling more to the fore wheels when necessary.
The Luxury Features
The XJ also has an attribute car called an All-Surface Progress Control. This is a slow cruise control system that assists in starting the car smoothly from a halt when traction is less than the ideal. The trunk lid is power activated, opening to an 18.4 cubic feet of space. The V8 model has an electronic center console with 60 GB of storage as well as four-zone automatic climate control and soft leather. Other choices include better interior lighting and a 26-speaker stereo.
The XJ’s interior is exceptional with lots of room and loaded with features that are quite lavish. Models can have heated front and rear seats, ventilated rear seats, ventilated and massaging fore seats with wood or chrome trim. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped and heated.
Other standard extravagances include a panoramic sunroof, a 10-inch infotainment display screen, in-car WiFi compatibility with a 4G data connection, a USB port, a 20-speaker stereo, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Also included in the seat package is dual 10.2-inch screens that fold away in the anterior seats when not utilized. Additional USB and HDMI inputs are also incorporated making the XJ a mobile boardroom.
The Safety Features
The Jaguar XJ incorporates several safety features like a forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning with active lane control, a driver-drowsiness monitor, and blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alerts.
Other optional features include adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera. It also contains a driver’s airbag, passenger airbag, and rear head airbags, and side airbags. It also incorporates daytime running lights, child safety locks, traction control, auto-leveling headlights, and electronic stability control.
Ride and handling of the XJs vary by models, but most are composed, sportier, and quiet thanks to its aluminum body. Regardless of the size of its body and roomy interior, the XJ is sportier thanks to its minimized mass from the aluminum body.
Big ventilated disc brakes aid in bringing this car into a stop. And while ride quality is stiff on the performance-adjusted XJR575, the air suspension and adaptive dampers do a good job in leveling out road imperfections.
In other words, this car is great for taking the kids to soccer practice. But it’s also good if you want to race down the cobbled streets of Monaco. Or satiate your need for speed on the hairpin turns of the Pacific Coast Highway. No matter what, this car has got you covered.
Unlike many of its competitors, the vehicle does not come with a hybrid alternative. But for a supercharged sedan, it consumes fuel quite economically.
Whether in short or long-wheelbase type in the XJ, the supercharged V6 manages 18 mpg city and 27 highway and 21 combined with those figures reducing slightly to 17/26/20 mpg for short-wheelbase and 17/25/20 mpg for the long wheelbase in all-wheel-drive models.
On the other hand, V8 comes with fuel-economic numbers of 15/23/18 whether in short or long-wheelbase form. All forms of Jaguar XJ need premium fuel.
Of course, this isn’t quite the gas mileage you can get in a new Prius or a Smart Car, but you aren’t getting the style, power, and function of the Jaguar XJ either. Everything comes with its trade-offs.
